Matte/Gloss Wood Grain

As I sit and wait for MONUMENTOUR tickets to go on sale, I figure I might as well go ahead and write a blog post.

One of my favorite combinations is black on black glossy and matte. I don't know why exactly, but I will probably never get tired of it. This combination is specifically inspired by the CD artwork for Pierce the Veil's Selfish Machines. The cover has a photo of a young boy and girl but over top of them is this glossy wood grain pattern which I thought would look awesome on the nails.

I am 100% in love. I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to pull it off, but I think I did a pretty awesome job if I do say so myself!

I started off with painting two coats of Pure Ice Black Out and waited for it to dry completely. Then I added a coat of Julep Matte Top Coat.

Next, instead of painting the wood grain with black again, I just used Seche Vite to make sure the lines were super glossy and would stand out against the matte background.

This manicure is really simple to do, but kinda classy and fun and the same time! I especially like it because I was able to do the same nail art on both of my hands without a problem. Normally my right hand is left out because I am really awful at being left handed. And while I think they look pretty good in photographs, I did have a difficult time capturing how much better they look in real life.

What's your favorite combination? Are you a fan of the matte/gloss look or tired of seeing it? Let me know in the comments!
